Congress Postpones Review Of The National Flood Insurance Program, What Does This Mean For You?
Congress is scheduled to vote on the National Flood Insurance Program on April 12th, leaving many questions unanswered for many people until then. People with Massachusetts flood insurance are left wondering, am I still covered?
In many instances the answer is yes! Congress postponed the date for the review of the National Flood Insurance Program mainly due to an extremely full agenda, with many crucial decisions to be made. Here’s how to know if you’re still covered…
Starting Sunday, March 28th, 2010 the Federal Flood Insurance Program will be temporarily suspended upon discussion by Congress, which is scheduled to begin April 12th, 2010. Until a decision is made within Congress, and further information is given to insurance companies, agencies cannot renew, or write new flood policies.
If you are currently covered by an active flood policy that does not expire before Congress finalizes their decision, then the policy is fully covered. The gray area is within policies expiring March 28th thru April 12th; these clients will not be able to renew their policies, and may not be covered in case of any damage.
So, what now? Only time can tell! Congress cannot answer these questions until they reconvene on April 12th to discuss the details. Please visit The Federal Emergency Management Agency website, or contact Berry Insurance online, or by calling (800) 941-3317 with questions.
